Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) is the trade name of one member of a family of rubber-like materials based on a polymerization of polypropylene and EP rubber. TPO does not contain chlorine or pasticizers, which enables it to be classified as being an environmentally friendly product. In addition to its envrionmental benefits, the absence of plastecizers enable sheets to last much longer than they would otherwise and prevents those sheets from becoming brittle and potentially cracking. A variety of other chemicals are added to allow TPO to be “Title 24” compliant. Further, the white TPO membrane has a high reflectivity rating which will, in many cases, lower the cooling costs for the whole building and further serves to lengthen the life of the roof.

The TPO membrane is installed using mechanical fasteners and plates placed along the leading edge. The next sheet is lapped and subsequently hot-air welded to the sheet below. Hot air machines make large jobs very quick and also ensure the welds will be consistent. After welding, the welded seams actually become stronger than the sheets themselves making certain that water will not get through. Due to the decreased labor necessary, particularly for larger jobs, TPO can be a very cost effective choice.
Seams 3 to 4 times the strength of alternatives. Independent testing has shown, when properly installed, TPO has 3-4 times the strength of EPDM's adhesive and tape seams.
Highly resistant to tears, impacts, and punctures. Due to TPO's chemical composition, it is highly resistant to the kinds of strains which your roof will inevitably come under over the years, including heat, algae, weather, debris, and other chemicals.
For large jobs, take advantage of economies of scale. Due to the way TPO roofing systems are installed, the average per square price of a new roofing system can be decreased on larger jobs with more open field by using TPO. Ask your account executive if this holds true for your particular project.
Environmentally friendly and safe to install
It causes minimal interruption to the building occupants.  Most roofing systems require loud noises, bad smells, and lots of debris. TPO keeps these to a minimum.
Energy Star rated to decrease cooling costs.  Many TPO membranes are Energy Star rated, meaning they exceed federal regulations for energy efficiency. If cooling costs are a concern, this may be an added benefit for TPO.
